Opening a dental office in Malaysia Part 5

Alhamdulillah.

To all Malaysian Dentists out there, some time in your life, you might loose your degree. It can easily happen to us. We move from place to place, we grow our family, we change our priority in our life, any of this gap always have a chance for your degree to hide away from you. Without your degree, you can't open your dream dental clinic. I strongly advise you to keep your copy online, in your hard drive, cloud or where ever you can think of. It's a psychological pain to find it again especially when you really need it.

To those who already lost it, don't worry mate. We have a very supportive Malaysian Dental Council and of course they have the ability to keep a copy of your degree in their safe. What you have to do is email them and kindly request a copy of your degree. Within 24 hours you will get it in your email.  Thank you Nur Syhida Hamzah, and thank you to Malaysian Dental Council for the excellent service. You are a star !!!!!!!

I emailed them today at 1:30 AM, and Alhamdulillah at 1:00 PM today, I get a reply with the copy of my degree attached. Now I can proceed with UKAPS. An appointment was made with UKAPS on 8th Sept 2017. With UKAPS approve application you can start your renovation. What a release.

Opening a dental office in Malaysia Part 4

It might be the time where I have to get rest a bit. It seems like no progress is happening right now. In mid 80's, I used to sit on a beach, listening to the music of nature, let the wind blow on my face. Alone.

At that time, I feel like I want to do more, but I can't. There is nothing I can do. The ball is not on my side. I have to wait for someone else to get me moving.

Now I feel the same. I need the degree certificate to move on. But it's not on my freedom to get it myself. I wanted to ask but I guess I'm still living in a culture of waiting not asking. There must be a secret behind it. I have to admit it

Beside that, everything else is moving fast. The pressures are getting bigger every day. I hope that I can manage. By the way, the renovation unofficially started today.

Opening a dental office in Malaysia Part 3

Great help from Dr drg Kosterman for helping me out with my degree. Until I get the replacement degree certificate I can't proceed with the UKAPS. I would like to thank everyone involved in this project. I called them 'My Team'. At this point, you need an understanding from your team, the landlord, rental agent, contractor and supplier. Their understanding to time scale of work is very important, because chicken and egg theory is not helping. You just need to start somewhere. To my teams above, you are awesome !!

Good news is that my floor plan has been accepted, so I can ask my contractor to do the marking for the renovation. It's easier to imagine every rooms on an exactly floor in the real shop lot. I do a small amendment to the floor plan base on the flow of the clinic.

From the initial marking plan, the teams can lay the real plan for the plumbing, electrical, network, CCTV, and everything else.

I choose to go toward online service as far as I can. Now my previous loyal patients, and my new patients can contact me anytime, and also can make a request for an appointment 24/7 using the apps. They just need to download a free apps called XInfo, and ask for their ID and password from me. They can find my clinic basic info from the apps. The apps can be found in iTunes or you need to search if you using android

Opening a dental office in Malaysia Part 2

I have a go for my layout plan. On 7th August I went to Menara Sunway in Shah Alam and met Aina. Very easy to park your car, but careful as the parking entrance is a bit narrow. Not many parking spaces, but there are not many cars either.

Register your name on the ground floor, take a lift to level 10 to get a pass. Then proceed to bahagian pergigian at level 11. All checked on the check list except I didn't have a degree copy. What happen is I have lost it and don't know where to find it when I want it.

You have to provide what they are asking you to provide. No less. Very strict I tell you. Less 1 items means no submission. Get it? Work harder man.

I contacted my university to get a replacement or a copy of my degree. My university asked me to email them a police report and a letter saying that I need a degree replacement. Balai Polis Bangi is the nearest and all done with flying colour. Got a patients already, hu hu hu. OK Mr Police, as a man of keeping Malaysian safe, I'm gonna give you a special dental treatment. Do come to my clinic and produce your police id card please.

You know what, actually you can submit Borang A online. What a technology, hu hu hu. But always remember, in Malaysia, you need to submit all the documents by hand okayyyyy. Don't forget. Be a good boy !

So I need to wait for the degree cert copy. New thing to add to a new clinic application. 1. You need to have a freezer to keep all your dirty clinical waste and sign with one of the sharp bin management. 2. You also need to have a portable oxygen tank even if you don't know how to use it.

At this time, you actually can ask your supplier to hand over a mechanical and electrical layout plan. Once you get that, you can ask your contractor to give you the quote. At this point also, you can proceed with the leasing if you need one,  you need to make a decision on all the computer and network wiring, cctv if you need it. Easy get busy. Oh I always hear this easy get busy in UK. Miss my colleague !!

Daaaaaaaaa

Can I have some kind of this working environment please. Lovely

How to open a dental office in MALAYSIA

I'm going to record a summary if not a story on how to open a dental office in Malaysia

First of all, once you have already set firmly in your mind that you need to open your dental office in Malaysia, and you have located the place for your practice, do a simple spreadsheets on how you gonna run your new business.

Basically it will consist of

  1. Dental personnel
  2. Office rental
  3. Dental equipment
  4. Renovation
  5. Income expectation to cover your expenses

Dental personal is the one who will generate income for you that is your dentist, your nurse, even your cleaner. All of them will make a big different to your clinic because they are the one who will interact with your patients. They are all your assets. But He/She can't offer anything if he doesn't have the armentarium (Office rental complete with renovation and Dental equipment) to work with. Last but not least is all the treatment you can offer as a product of your business. So plan wise and smart to get the best out of these three components.

Many peoples talk about UKAPS, but I don't know what it is. It is new to me. But don't worry, my friend (Mr Google) provide me with the website for me to read about UKAPS.

Then download Borang A and fill in the blank, hu hu hu not that easy, but not too hard either. What I found quite challenging task are the floor plan, bank draft, the building CF, BOMBA cert, surat akan sumpah berkanun only commissioner of oath, magistrate can sign. All of them were time consumed and easily can set you back off. My floor plan were prepared by Amedix Sdn Bhd

Once you have done with that, you are ready to proceed to local UKAPS (Unit Kawalan Amalan Perubatan Swasta) in your area. You can find it all in Borang A. Remember to call them first prior to your visit. Their personnel are warm and welcome and really want to help you. Get their email, so that you can email them your floor plan for them to check and advise you further. After they are satisfied with your floor plan, they will give you an appointment to check all the documents you have.

Sent my floor plan via email today. Technology ... what a relief. If not arrrr, I tell you, you travel 1 hour go 1 hour back. Not include 20 mins parking, 10 mins to find and go to level 11, 20 mins waiting. Many many time profit oooooo
